Is scientific innovation still the answer to our global issues?
In addition to the purely scientific sessions of the conference, this opened debate will be the perfect occasion to discuss the impact of science and innovation with economic, environmental, and societal considerations as a more comprehensive backdrop. The panel discussion will be opened to the public of BPC and to any person interested in the debate. It will bring together a wide and broad audience with participants coming from academia and industry but also from start-ups, NGOs and foundations as well as from the political and the journalistic spheres. How can Social Entrepreneurs and new open science-policy interfaces leverage STI towards achieving the 2030 agenda?
The 2030 Agenda enhances the role of science in implementing sustainable development. There is a need for new complementary models of science-policy interface that can shape national agendas more strongly and science-social entrepreneurship interface that can help advance the SDGs through innovation. This session brings together several stakeholders, especially new emergent actors so called “social scipreneurs”, which effectively leverage science, technology and innovation to answer the SDGs, as well as leaders of emerging STI/society models - reinforcing science and policy interconnections in an innovative way, with high impact in terms of accelerating progress towards the 2030 agenda.
